iRobot: Leading The Way In Uncharted Territory

Company Overview

Founded in 1990 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology roboticists, iRobot® specializes in practical robots that make a difference in people’s lives. To date, the company has sold more than 5 million home robots, including the iconic iRobot Roomba®, and has delivered over 2,900 iRobot PackBot® tactical mobile robots to the military and public safety professionals around the world. As an industry leader, iRobot believes that next-generation practical robots can help caregivers perform critical work and help people live independently for longer periods of time.

Communications Challenge

Colin Angle, Chairman and CEO of iRobot, announced the company’s newly formed health care business unit at TEDMED 2009. TED conferences showcase innovative thought leaders and attract a sophisticated, critical audience. Angle was invited to join many other high-profile speakers on the agenda. To assist in communicating this vision at TEDMED 2009, iRobot enlisted Preston’s services.

Key Programs and Solutions

We helped Colin tackle the challenge with a classic theatrical toolbox: props, costumes, characters and setting. Robots and videos were used to explain how innovative robotic technologies can assist in household chores, the administering of medication and by serving as a link to a doctor. Colin shared information about the growing demand for elder care and the potential for robots to allow us all to become more effective caregivers to loved ones.
